"Immersive Exploration of Future Education: XR, VR, AR, and 360 Video in the Spotlight
The recent involvement of the Learning Center team in two major events centered around immersive pedagogical experiences offered us a captivating glimpse into the revolutionary possibilities offered by XR (Extended Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), and AR (Augmented Reality) technologies.
Creating a Learner Community in the Metaverse
At the 'Metaverse and Immersion in Training' conference organized by the Tropisme Learning Lab in Montpellier, the Montpellier-based company Atlantis showcased the creation of interactive virtual spaces. The 'Prometheus Learner Campus' is an ambitious initiative aiming to establish a Metaverse-style virtual space, providing learners access to a variety of educational stakeholders, resources, and services, along with diverse professional opportunities. This virtual campus promises an immersive and personalized learning experience, enhancing learner engagement through a network of exchange and support, harnessing the power of community!
Hybrid Training with Immersive Technologies
The "Journées des Pédagogies Immersives Numériques" event, organized by the University of Clermont Auvergne, brought together educators, researchers, instructional designers, and specialized companies. Through discussions, they shed light on the advantages and challenges of integrating immersive technologies into learning.
A variety of innovative projects where digital immersion is radically transforming the way education is delivered were presented: from virtual classrooms to interactive simulations, the demonstrations captivated the attention of the participants, illustrating in a tangible way how the digital transition can be integrated harmoniously into the teaching-learning process.
For learners, this entails adapting to new methods and equipment. For educators, it represents a transition requiring technical mastery and material adaptation. For support teams, it demands enhancing technical skills and managing equipment (updates and maintenance). These challenges underscore the importance of tailored support and close collaboration for successful implementation of these projects.
Participants unanimously agree based on their experiences. The power of XR technologies in education lies not only in innovation but also in tangible outcomes observed. Learners exhibit higher motivation, better comprehension of concepts, and enhanced knowledge retention.
The integration of immersive technologies offers unprecedented prospects but also raises challenges requiring meticulous planning and adequate support.
In essence, the future of immersive education is promising, yet it must be shaped responsibly and with integrity. By implementing environmentally-respectful digital practices, we can create enriching educational programs that prepare learners for a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
